JOINT CAPTAINS 2021 – Jackie Saunders and Joyce Knowles

The Ladies’ Section is organised by an elected committee which tries to meet every month.  The last couple of years have been challenging to say the least but we are pleased to say that we are looking ahead to all that this year has to offer.

On behalf of the ladies’ committee, we would like to welcome you to Great Torrington Golf Club

We are a friendly section and we work hard to create an environment where every lady can enjoy her golf no matter whether she is completely new to golf or plays off a low handicap. If you decide to join us you will receive a welcome pack with a list of members who would be happy if you contacted them to organise to play a round with you and help you to gain your handicap if you don’t already have one. We will also show you how to enter various competitions and find someone to partner you. If you prefer to enjoy some non-competitive golf in the fresh air with all the health benefits that this offers you would be very welcome to join us for our social events. So keep checking the website to see what’s coming up.

Our ladies’ day is each Wednesday - tee times are available throughout the day and can be booked online once you have a handicap. We are a growing section and encourage ladies to take part in outside competitions when it is possible. We all enjoy a day out!

We play friendly matches, Ladies Veterans matches and we also compete in the Devon League every year. As well as this we play friendly - friendlies! These fun matches are a great way to play other courses and make new friends. These matches are always followed by a tasty meal together.

Ladies are also able to enter the 'all categories' Saturday and Sunday competitions and during the summer months, on a Thursday evening, a supper competition is held. This is great fun and a good way to meet other club members.

Over the course of the year we usually hold Open Competitions, Coffee mornings and Ladies lunches and of course THE CHRISTMAS FUN GOLF followed by Christmas Lunch. If we have your email address you will receive an email reminding you of what’s planned for the month ahead.

Don’t forget to check the Club Diary page for upcoming events.

The R&A Women in Golf Charter

A commitment to a more inclusive culture within golf

We, Great Torrington Golf Club, call on everyone involved in golf to play their part in developing a culture that values women’s involvement in every aspect of the sport, from participating to pursuing a career.

Our aim is to increase the number of women and girls playing and working in golf.

  • To achieve this goal and to enable women to flourish throughout golf, we recognise the need for a fundamental shift in culture. There is a clear ethical need for change and the potential economic benefits of growing the sport through more women and girls playing are substantial.
  • The R&A commits to playing a leading role in this process and to working with affiliates, partners and the wider golf industry towards achieving this goal.
  • In signing this Charter, we Great Torrington GC commit to making tangible efforts to develop a welcoming and inspiring environment for women. We will do more to attract women into golf, to remain, and to have rewarding careers.
